General Information for Families

School Closings

From time to time inclement weather may prohibit the school from opening or make it difficult for students and staff to report as scheduled. During periods of inclement weather, parents should watch the local television stations (11 Alive), check for text messages or email announcements from the administrative staff, and/or check the school’s Facebook page for announcements of closing or delayed openings. We typically follow Fulton County; however, Discovery holds the right to decide whether or not we need to close or delay opening.

Family Involvement

Family involvement is an all-purpose term that encompasses volunteering, family education, the Parent Teacher Community Association (PTCA), volunteer groups and committees, and special events. We at Discovery Montessori of Georgia believe the key to family involvement is giving families a variety of ways to be involved in the life of the school. Community Hours can be logged via this Google Form.

The following are some of the many ways you can be involved:

  1. Call or visit the school at any time. The school has an open-door policy for our enrolled families.
  2. Join the PTCA as a board member or a voting member.
  3. Attend family meetings, curriculum nights, special events, open houses, and more throughout the year.
  4. Stay informed with the daily, weekly, and monthly formal and informal communication that takes place via our school calendar, newsletters, school bulletin boards, emails, community reports, and conferences.
  5. Share your ideas and concerns with the Directors of the school at any time.
  6. Arrange an observation of your child during school hours. (Observation guidelines will be provided)

Parent / Teacher Conferences

Twice a year, parent/teacher conferences are scheduled. This is the time that parents and teachers share information and insights concerning your child. You are welcome to reach out to your child’s teacher at any point in the school year for questions or concerns.
