Toddler Program

Journey to Independence

14mos – 36mos

The Toddler Community is designed to speak to the developmental needs of the child from about 14 months through three years.

Toddler environment

The Toddler environment promotes independence and self-discipline through gross and fine motor activities (termed “work”) which are completed independently by the toddler. These activities, ranging from granola making and bread baking to language activities and care of self, are designed to speak to the desire of the toddler to be able to communicate with others, to build knowledge to feed the curious mind, and most importantly, to do these things independent of adults. Under the watchful eye of the teacher (“Guide”) each child has the freedom to develop at his/her own pace.

"These very children reveal to us the most vital need of their development, saying: 'Help me to do it alone!'

- Maria Montessori

Toddler curriculum

Once a child shows signs of mastery of the toddler curriculum and is confident in toileting, usually around the third birthday, he or she will begin to transition to the Primary program. The child will begin to visit one of our Primary communities for portions of the day and gradually extend to spending the full day in the new community.

If you think your child would thrive in a Montessori environment, give us a call or schedule a tour online. We would love for you to visit our school and learn more.
